Agreed The Alamo Bowl in San Antonio will get the first pick from the Big 12 under a new six-year deal with the Pac-12 announced Friday. It makes the Alamo Bowl the marquee game for the Big 12 outside the new four-team College Football Playoff that begins next year. The Cotton Bowl had previously been the signature game for Big 12 teams that didn’t make the Bowl Championship Series. The Alamo Bowl will also continue to get first dibs from the Pac-12 outside the playoff.

Cleared Police in Las Vegas will not charge former baseball slugger Jose Canseco after an investigation of a woman’s rape claim. The 48-year-old Canseco was never arrested in the case. Canseco went public about the investigation May 22 with postings on the social media network Twitter.

Arrested A police report says officers seized a 9mm handgun and ammunition when North Carolina’s leading scorer from last basketball season, P.J. Hairston, was arrested on Wednesday night and charged with of marijuana possession in Durham, N.C. Hairston and his two passengers were charged and released on $1,000 unsecured bonds.

Out The San Jose Earthquakes say they have reached a mutual agreement with coach Frank Yallop to part ways. Mark Watson will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the MLS season. The team is 3-6-6 with 15 points.

• University of Montana basketball player Spencer Coleman has been dismissed from the team. On May 30, Coleman was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence while in February he had been charged with speeding and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Injured Ten spectators were hospitalized following a crash during a motorcycle race on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. Organizers said the injuries range from “slight to serious,” with none life-threatening. Jonathan Howarth’s bike careened into fans on the Bray Hill section of the course on the first lap of the senior Isle of Man TT race. Howarth sustained a minor fracture, organizers said.

Died Longtime Miami (Ohio) basketball coach Charlie Coles has died at his Oxford, Ohio, home. He was 71. No cause of death was reported immediately by the school, but Coles had a history of heart issues.
