Obituary: Felgar, Orlo H.
Age 97
Orlo was born December 27, 1915 to Charles and Mabel Felgar at the family farm near Bowen, IL.
Orlo was the youngest of five brothers, Lynn, Frank, Irving and David.
Orlo attended grade school in a one-room building and prior to graduation, he served as the captain of his high school basketball team and baseball pitcher.
Orlo attended Western Illinois University from 1933-1934 and Bradley University in the late 1940s.
Orlo worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company from 1941 to 1977, rising through the ranks to foreman in Peoria, IL, assistant manager in Denver, CO and assistant manager of the parts depot in Spokane, WA.
In 1944 and at age 28, Orlo was drafted into the U.S. Army as an infantryman.
He spent 14 months in the European Theater before returning to his country, his wife and his employment in 1946.
Orlo married his childhood sweetheart, Alberta May Grady in 1936.
Together they had two children, son, Danny Earl, and daughter, Deborah Ann.
Orlo and Alberta shared 36 years together before her death in 1973.
Orlo married Ruth Ward in 1974, and after his retirement in 1977, they spent 22 years in Yuma, AZ before returning to Spokane.
She passed away in 2008 after 33 years.
Orlo was a lifelong member of the Illinois Freemasonry, formerly active in Junior Achievement, the Spokane Transportation Club, an avid gardener, outdoorsman and sports enthusiast.
Orlo loved his family, his friends and his country.
He lived with honesty, integrity and dignity, forever grateful, forever giving.
Orlo is preceded in death by his parents; brothers; wife, Alberta; wife, Ruth and stepson, Charles Ward.
Orlo is survived by son, Danny Felgar, and daughter Deborah (Bruce) Latting; dear and loving friend, Blanche Stong; stepson, David Ward; five granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Thornhill Valley, 1400 South Pines Road, Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
