Spokane Chiefs release preseason plan
WHL: The Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs announced their seven-game preseason schedule, which includes tournaments in Everett and Kennewick.
The Chiefs will begin at the Everett Silvertips Holiday Inn Preseason Classic, playing Portland on Aug. 30, the host Silvertips on Aug. 31 and Seattle on Sept. 1.
The next weekend, Spokane will play in the Tri-City Americans Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament, meeting Kootenay on Sept. 6 and the host Americans on Sept. 7.
The preseason schedule ends with a home-and-home series against Tri-City, Sept. 11 at a Spokane site to be determined and Sept. 14 in Kennewick.
The Chiefs’ regular-season schedule will be released today.

Oregon about to learn its fate
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: The NCAA’s Division I Committee on Infractions will release a public report today on the findings of its investigation on possible recruiting violations and any sanctions against Oregon’s football program.
The NCAA has been looking into payments Oregon made to recruiting services, including $25,000 to Willie Lyles and Houston-based Complete Scouting Services in 2011.

Anchorage eyes 2026 bid
OLYMPICS: The city of Anchorage has formed an exploratory committee to help determine whether it should bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Anchorage was the United States Olympics Committee choice for the 1992 and 1994 gamesthat went to Albertville, France, and Lillehammer, Norway, respectively.
