Nelson leads EWU to win
On a night neither team shot well from the field, the hot hand of Lexi Nelson proved to be the difference in Eastern Washington’s 67-61 overtime victory over Idaho State in a Big Sky Conference women’s basketball game at Cheney.
The victory ensures the Eagles the third seed in the conference tournament.
Nelson made 7 of 10 shots, including 2 of 3 3-pointers, and hit all eight of her free throws to score a game-high 24 points. EWU (17-11, 13-6) shot just 33.3 percent with the Bengals (17-11, 12-7) only a little better at 35 percent.
The Eagles, who trailed by eight points at halftime, helped themselves by sinking 27 of 33 free throws. Idaho State was 17 of 25.
