Obituary: Kibbee, Eunice Evelyn

Age 92

KIBBEE, Eunice Evelyn (Age 92) Eunice Evelyn Kibbee, born August 5, 1920, in a log cabin in Texas County, near Mountain Grove, Missouri, died March 7, 2013, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Her parents were Stephen and Nola Kendall.

She and her family moved to Idaho when she was a youngster, growing up in Benewah and Kootenai Counties’ rural areas and logging camps.

It’s told she met her husband, Clemet Ross Kibbee, at a dance at the Tensed, Idaho Grange Hall.

They married in St. Maries, ID, on January 20, 1946.

Clem was a businessman, operating a service station and then Clem’s Store, a small mercantile.

He passed away suddenly on October 17, 1960.

Eunice never remarried.

Four children came from the marriage: Gail, a homemaker, Roger, a retired body repairman, Clay, semi-retired driver, and Clara, a store manager.

Eunice operated the store for several years with her father, then sold it to her husband’s little sister, Mildred, in the mid-60’s.

She went on to work in the health industry as a kitchen aide, housekeeper, aide, and then, Certified Nurses’ Aide, of which she was very proud.

She retired in May 1991 and filled her days with senior activities, church activities, short trips, and walking.

She passed idle time working on word games and puzzles.

She didn’t care for TV.

Eunice was a member of Shiloh Hills Neighborhood Fellowship and her faith in God never waivered.

She couldn’t hear well, but always had a smile.

Most everyone who met her commented, “Your momma is the sweetest thing.”

Eunice is survived by her sister, Ruby Toland, of St. Maries; children, Gail (Wes) Marlatt, Spokane, Roger Kibbee, Spokane, Clay (Marta) Kibbee, Pinehurst, ID, Clara Ross, Spokane; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Thursday, March 14, 2013, with funeral service following at 1 PM in the Alwin Chapel, Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St., Spokane.

Eunice will be privately interred at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Medical Lake, WA.
