Obituary: Williams, Verna
Verna was the first of 11 children born to Joe and Velma Haley.
She was born December 31, 1919 on a homestead in Norwood, CO.
Her family later moved to the Snohomish area where her siblings and she were the local preacher’s kids.
After graduating from Snohomish high school Verna married Clarence Williams.
In 1951 they moved to Soap Lake, WA where they raised three of their five children.
Verna was very active in the local church and loved singing in the choir and working in her beautiful gardens.
She gave all of her children a love of flowers and gardening.
After her children were older, Verna joined her husband in working for the Soap Lake School District and continued there until her husband’s retirement.
In 1972, after the death of her husband, Verna moved back to the Seattle area for a short period of time.
She later moved to Spokane to be closer to her youngest daughter.
She worked for several years in the lingerie department of the Crescent.
She loved being a part of the Joyettes, a singing group associated with Project Joy.
Verna especially enjoyed her family, her dogs, her day to day devotion to Jesus, and anything that had to do with music.
She learned to play the organ as an adult and spent many hours enjoying the ability to bring the music she loved into her home.
Verna is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Ray) Lee, Yuma, AZ and Sharon Ballou (Bob), Spokane.
She is also survived by one son Clayton Williams (Lori) Texas.
Also surviving Verna are 7 grand children and several great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her great-grandchildren Shalea and Killian Mosley.
Verna is predeceased by her husband, Clarence; daughter, Joan Burris; sisters, Betty Cook, Ruth Andrade and Melissa Cranson; brother, Calvin Haley; and friend, Vance Everson.
The family would like to especially thank the Day Spring Unit at Good Samaritan Village for the incredible love and care shown to our mom over the time she was with you.
You all went above and beyond in your care of her.
A memorial service will take April 6th, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Community Church in Soap Lake, WA.
