Obituary: Mealey, George Wesley

Age 86

MEALEY, George Wesley It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to George Wesley Mealey, son of Patrick James and Mary Myrtle (Peoples) Mealey of Butte, MT., who passed away March 17, 2013 in Spokane, WA.

He was born February 22, 1927 in Butte, MT.

At the end of George’s junior year of high school, he left Butte Montana and became a radio operator for the Navy.

He finished his schooling with a GED and started working hard.

Checks went home to help his family while he was in the navy.

He started working for the Milwaukee Railway company after his navy service was complete.

George married a childhood friend, Anne Roe.

In the first 10 years of their marriage, the railroad moved the family 13 times and the family grew to 5 children.

Anne and George decided to stop moving and start a business.

They opened the Coast-to-Coast Hardware store in Argonne Village.

While operating the store George participated in the Argonne Village Merchants Committee that conducted a large Easter Egg hunt each year.

He was also the Diocesan Development Fund Chairman for St. Mary’s and was the secretary for Kiwanis.

They also gave birth to one more child and took care of both of their fathers.

George is survived by six children: Patrick Mealey, Menlo Park, CA; Con Mealey, Post Falls, ID; Katherine Frenzell, Detroit, MI; Brian Mealey, Spokane, WA; Megan Rounds, Post Falls, ID; and Honore McGuire, Beaverton, OR; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his Sister, and nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his former wife Anne Mealey and his brother Patrick Mealey.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at noon at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave, Spokane WA 99201.
