Full story on Warner

This morning, I read three news reports about the ongoing investigation into the assault on Washington State University professor David Warner: one from KREM, one from KHQ and one from The Spokesman-Review. The Spokesman correctly reported that Warner is still recovering at a facility in Post Falls.

However, the other outlets omitted this important detail. One merely reported that Warner has been released from Sacred Heart Medical Center, and even worse, the other simply said that he had been released from “the hospital,” implying a tidy resolution to his recovery.

Warner was released from Sacred Heart, yes, but he was transferred to the North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital. According to his mother, he is scheduled to be released to St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Center on May 5. He is recovering steadily, but at this time cannot get into a wheelchair unassisted,or string together a sentence.

His parents report his condition regularly on an open Facebook page called “Rally for David Warner,” which I’m sure all of the local news outlets know about. There is no excuse to misreport the details of his recovery.

Thank you for gesturing toward Warner’s ongoing recovery in your report.
