Obituary: Wagner, John William

WAGNER, John William 92 Years of Life A longtime resident of Deer Park, Washington, formerly of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013.

John is the dear father and father-in-law of John and Darlene Wagner of Deer Park, and Linda Wagner of Spokane.

He enjoyed two grand- daughters and two grandsons: Desire Baker, Nichole Busch, Travis and Cody Wagner, and great-grandchildren: Cameron and Levi Baker and Christopher and Taylor Busch.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian Wagner, and two sons, Tom and Randy Wagner.

Born in 1921 at Spokane, WA, John served with the United States Army during World War II, seeing combat action in the North African and European Theatres.

After the war, John owned a small restaurant in Hillyard where he met Lillian.

He was employed by Washington Water Power, working at the Kettle Falls Dam until it closed, after which he did excavating until 1965.

The family moved to Bremerton, WA, so Lillian could finish her nursing degree.

Upon returning to Deer Park, the Wagner and Sons Excavation Service was established and worked for both power companies and many customers in the area.

John loved sports, especially football and baseball, and reading.

A great pastime for John was going to coffee in the morning with good old boys in the back room at Wolfe’s Hardware and later at Levi’s Minit Market to discuss and solve many of the city’s problems and how to save Deer Park from disaster.

John was a member of the Deer Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he was the head elder for many years.

Funeral services honoring Mr. Wagner will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 17, 2013, in Deer Park at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 809 S. Colville Rd., with Pastor Rick McCombs and Pastor Keith Kirkingburg officiating.

Flag presentation and Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army/Washington Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Private family interment will follow.

John’s family suggests memorial contributions to the Deer Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
