A Cleaner Minivan

Jim Gorzelany CTW Features
Minivans are prototypical family carpooling vehicles, which means they can also be among the messiest rides on the road. While it won’t toss out empty juice boxes and crumpled-up fast-food wrappers, one innovation that’s set to debut this summer on the 2014 Honda Odyssey minivan promises to help keep things tidy. Developed in conjunction with the makers of the popular Shop-Vac, the new “HondaVAC” is a built-in vacuum cleaner that’s housed in the Odyssey’s rear cargo area, complete with a replaceable filter, canister bag and attachments. An integrated hose is said to reach into every corner of the minivan’s cabin, with the system able to operate continuously when the engine is running, and continue to work for up to eight minutes when the vehicle is turned off. Unfortunately, the HondaVAC will only be included in the top-of-the-line Odyssey Touring Elite version, which for 2013 busts the budget at around $44,000.
