In brief: Snowfall possible until early afternoon

Another half inch of snow could fall in the lower elevations of Spokane and Coeur d’Alene today before rising temperatures cause it to switch to rain, forecasters said.

Snowfall is possible until about 1 p.m. in Spokane, the National Weather Service said. The high today should reach 37 in Spokane.

A 40 percent chance of snow or rain showers continues tonight.

Another storm is headed for the region by Wednesday night, but it will bring rain rather than snow, forecasters said. The high on Thursday should reach 44, with a 100 percent chance of rain.

Bomb squad discovers paperwork in package

A man upset about a parking ticket took his complaint to an Idaho congressman Monday and triggered a response from the bomb squad.

The 40-year-old man was taken into protective custody by Coeur d’Alene police after he left a bulky package at U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador’s office in Coeur d’Alene. Police did not release his name.

Detectives determined the man needed mental health services, police spokesman Sgt. Christie Wood said.

The Spokane bomb squad was brought in to handle the package left at the Republican congressman’s Hubbard Avenue office. Turns out it contained paperwork and candy suckers, Wood said.

The man also had mailed several people working in government at the local, state and federal levels a “rambling” letter over the ticket.

Man in killing arrested on drug charges

The man who told police he shot and killed a jealous boyfriend in self-defense earlier this month in the Hillyard neighborhood was arrested on drug charges last week.

Joseph Buskirk, 34, was released Friday after detectives said they witnessed him selling narcotics. One of the alleged sales came just eight days after Buskirk told police he shot Brandon Compogno, 30, outside a home at 2418 E. Empire Ave. on Oct. 9. Buskirk said he went to the house to trade Compogno’s girlfriend drugs for sex and a Blu-ray player. Compogno arrived at the home, robbed Buskirk, and threatened to kill him, according to records.

Buskirk told police he pulled a gun from his waistband and fired “three to six times,” killing Compogno.
