Obituary: Taylor, Deverne W. “De”

TAYLOR, DeVerne W. “De”

Of Bayview Idaho, passed away on Oct 1, 2013 of natural causes.

He was 83.


De was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, and moved with his family to Spokane in 1934.

He was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

De was in the US Navy Reserves during the Korean conflict.

In 1957 he joined the City of Spokane Fire Department, Local 29, where he retired as a Captain in 1980.


He was an avid fisherman and boating enthusiastic.

He enjoyed working on large cabin cruisers and had a special gift of being able to finish out the exterior hulls of the beautiful old wooden boats.

He was a “snow-bird” and he and his wife of over 40 years, Shirley, traveled south as the temperatures started to dip and returned as the spring flowers started to bloom.

De and Shirley both enjoyed golf, snow skiing and fishing.
De was preceded in death by his parent’s Cliff and Rhea Taylor, son Ross, step-daughter, Debbie (Jolly) Bray and step-grandson Jeremiah Jolly.


He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; son, DeVerne “Skip” W. Taylor Jr; daughter, Jodee (David) Pavlin; and son, Roger Taylor; stepsons Jeff (Tracey) and Steven Jolly; grandchildren Jennifer and Nick (Rene’) Pavlin, stepgrandchildren Zach (Sonia) Bray, Kimberly (Antonio) Posey, Courtney Bray, and Joshua Jolly, along with numerous great-grandchildren.
