Obituary: Savland, Helen Marion

Age 94

SAVLAND, Helen Marion (Age 94) Passed away October 16, 2013.

She was born May 16, 1919 at St. Maries, Idaho to the late Carl Elof and Agnes M. Anderson.

They came to the Pasadena Park area of the Spokane Valley in February 1920 and resided there ever since.

She is a graduate of West Valley High school and Kinman Business University.

She was employed as a secretary, most recently by the West Valley School District, retiring in 1986 after 24 years employment.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and James Hayes of Montpelier, Virginia and their five children, Kevin, Christina, Rebecca, Brian and Timothy; her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Pam Savland of Spokane Valley and their daughter, Crystal Thompson; three great grandchildren, Sebastian and Sophia Thompson, Koen Hayes; two nieces, Diane Jobin and Gayle Saraceno of Pasco, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Gerald P. Savland in August 1977; her parents; two sisters, Ruth Murphy Evans and Hazel Hodge.

She was a member of the Sons of Norway, Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Magnolia Chapter #194 of the Eastern Star, and the Reserve Officers Auxiliary.

She had been a volunteer with the Red Cross and also served for many years as secretary of the CPR group.

At her request no services will be held.

Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery where she will be buried by her late husband and parents.
