Obituary: Pirello, Lurene Clair

Age 91

PIRELLO, Lurene Clair (Age 91) Lurene Clair Pirello, almost 92, joined her beloved husband, in etern- ity, September 15, 2013.

She lived a long, full life, giving of herself and her talents every step of the way.

Lurene was born October 22, 1921 in Kansas to Olga and Albert Lincoln Hollister.

She was the sixth of eleven children, with six sisters and four brothers.

She was very close to many of her siblings, and had regular visits with them.

Her family moved to Spokane in 1925, and in 1933, found her way to Spokane Valley where she met, and eventually married the love of her life, Wirt Pirello.

Together, Wirt and Lu built a family, a home and a business; “Wirt’s Dirt”.

During that time Lu was the bookkeeper, and being the strong manager that she was, ran the business like a well-oiled machine, always running smoothly.

She did all this while she raised a family and kept the home.

She was the kind of wife that we admired greatly.

She was supportive, loving and rarely left her husband’s side until the day of his passing on January 5, 2009.

They were married 67 years and shared a love that grew richer as the years went by.

Lu is survived by her five children: David (Gloria), Dennis (Lois) of Veradale, Kris (Steve) of Prosser, Kevin (Pam) of Veradale and Lisa (Terry) of Richand.

She had 13 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren with two on the way.

When asked what her occupation was, she would refer to herself as a “Domestic Goddess”.

This title covered a variety of talents she possessed including a cook, seamstress, hostess, gardener, mother, nurse and whatever anyone needed at any given time.

Her arms were open wide and she was always available as a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, or a teacher of life lessons.

She truly served the people around her every day of her life.

She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where a great joy of hers came from serving in the choir including a performance at Carnegie Hall at age 77, with Project Joy.

She loved to sing, and had the voice of an angel.

A Funeral Service will be held to honor Lurene at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2013.
