Obituary: Marx, Joseph John
Age 86
Born November 20, 1927 in Longview, Washington, in 1943 Joe’s family moved to Rice, WA.
He attended Kettle Falls High School.
Upon graduation in 1946, Joe joined the Army catching a troop ship to Sasebo, Japan.
After his discharge, in 1948 Joe married Vivian Holland of Colville and moved to Spokane.
Joe and Vivian raised their four children in St. Aloysius parish then moved to a ten-acre ranch north of Spokane in 1964.
Joe worked for Ray’s Truck Service and later International Harvester retiring at age 55.
During his retirement years, Joe and his life partner Jan Franks traveled throughout the U.S., danced Sunday evenings at the Eagles and spent time with their children and grandchildren.
Last October, Joe was thrilled to participate in the Inland Northwest Honor Flight whose mission is to transport Inland Northwest war veterans to Washington D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated in their honor.
Joe is survived by his wonderful partner of 15 years, Jan Franks, his former wife of 37 years, Vivian Marx, children Michael Marx (Laura Carroll), Marie Marx Strohm, Martin Marx (Barbara) and Jeannine Marx Fruci (Dave), seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joe was a kind, hard-working man who loved dancing, Gonzaga basketball, Northwest history and above all, his family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 5th at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Ave, Spokane.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Colville Monday, April 7th at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to INW Honor Flight, 608 W. 2nd, Ste.
