Slopestyle threatened by injuries

Associated Press

MONACO – Maybe Shaun White was right all along.

An International Olympic Committee official charged with monitoring injury rates says the new discipline of slopestyle produced an “unacceptably high” number of injuries in its debut at the Sochi Olympics and should be dropped if that doesn’t improve.

Lars Engebretsen said injury rates in ski and snowboard slopestyle were higher than for any other discipline in Sochi.

White withdrew from snowboard slopestyle in Sochi, saying “the potential risk of injury is a bit too much.”
