Obituary: Thayer, Bette L.
Age 91
Born on March 2, 1923 to Virgil and Beulah Christenson in Wolf Point, Montana, Bette was the fourth of eight children.
Her father, a railroad man, moved the family to Seattle when she was a young child.
Bette met her future husband, Bowen, at the age of 15 and they married in 1946, following Bowen’s overseas deployment.
Bette was a homemaker.
She was a wonderful cook, sewed clothes for her three girls, loved to plant flowers and putter in the garden.
She was active in Camp Fire, volunteered with the Red Cross during blood drives, worked with the United Way doing committee work, served at local polling stations during elections and was active with the PTA at her daughters’ schools.
She loved to bowl and participated in leagues in Seattle and Spokane for many years.
Bette also enjoyed golf and managed a hole-in-one (with witnesses!)
on a course in Hawaii.
Bette and Bowen loved to travel and visited many countries throughout the world.
They took numerous cruises, including trips to the Caribbean and Alaska, celebrating their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries with their children and grandchildren.
Bette was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bowen Thayer, on December 2, 2013.
She is survived by her three daughters, Wendy Burns (Roy) of Grants Pass, Or., Julie Arlyne of Spokane Valley, and Jan Frisch (Bill) of Spokane Valley; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Bette’s life will be held at Valley Bible Church (3021 S. Sullivan Rd), April 26,2014 at 1100.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital (911 W. Fifth Ave, Spokane, Wa 99204).
