Obituary: Melius, Marion Lydell
Age 83
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Road in Medical Lake, Washington.
Marion Lydell Melius was born on December 25, 1930 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the son of the late Laurence and Marjorie (Jay) Melius.
He was raised and received his education in the Chippewa Falls community.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War Era, having joined the United States Army on September 20, 1949 in Butte, Montana.
Marion served for three years in the 1438 Engr Flt Brg Co. until receiving his Honorable Discharge on October 11, 1952 in Ft. Lewis, Washington at the rank of Corporal.
Upon his discharge, Marion studied for and became a Catholic Jesuit Brother.
He worked as a carpenter and mason for the Catholic church serving in villages in Alaska and several areas in Oregon and Washington building houses and schools and doing repair work on existing churches.
He also worked on the Alaska pipeline.
Marion worked for many years doing maintenance for St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington until his retirement in 2003.
Among his special interests he enjoyed reading and fishing.
Marion is preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Marjorie Melius.
Survivors include his siblings and their spouses, Larry and Jean Melius, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Robert Melius, of Portland, Oregon, Louis and Elsie Melius, of Wamic, Oregon, Lynn and Sherry Melius, of Oakville, Washington, Donald and Patti Melius, of Rochester, Washington and Joyce and Gary Johnston, of Forest Grove, Oregon.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews as well as many grand nieces and nephews.
