Weekend weather: Temperatures drop with storms

Potentially hazardous weather will continue in the Inland Northwest over the next two days before the lingering low pressure system that arrived on Wednesday migrates east of the region.

Showers and thunderstorms could bring heavy rain to the region today and tonight and again tomorrow.

In Spokane, the chance of rain and thunderstorms goes from 70 percent today to 40 percent tomorrow.

Conditions begin to clear tomorrow night and Saturday, although there is still a 20 percent risk of thunderstorms and showers on Saturday in Spokane.

The warm humid air this week will continue with highs in the lower 80s and lows in the lower 60s. The relative humidity Wednesday afternoon in Spokane was 45 percent.

Coeur d’Alene has the same risk as Spokane for showers, heavy rain and thunderstorms, but temperatures will be about 3 degrees cooler with highs in the upper 70s.

In Sandpoint and other areas to the north, the chance of the storms is greater and temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler during the day, but dropping into the 50s at night.

Elsewhere, a flash flood watch remains in effect through Friday evening for the east slopes of the northern Cascades, the Wenatchee area and Okanogan Valley.

Recent fire scars are vulnerable to flooding. However, flash floods could reach areas away from the scars. The floods would likely carry rocks and hunks of trees with them.

Air pollution will remain an issue since wild fires continue to burn across the region. Blowing dust is also a possibility near thunderstorms.
