Obituary: Simon, Phillip Joseph
Age 82
Memorial services will be held Friday, August 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Endicott Bible Church.
Phil was born on December 10, 1931 to Phillip and Geneva (Chalmers) Simon in Yakima, Washington.
He grew up around the northwest, mostly in Medical Lake, Washington.
He did not receive any formal education growing up but he taught himself how to read, write and do basic arithmetic.
He loved to read and had read the Bible completely through several times.
Phil loved the Lord and attended the Endicott Bible Church.
He worked most of his career at, and retired from, the Spokesman-Review as a press repairman and janitor.
Phil married Virginia (Presley) Hayden in Spokane, Washington on June 20, 1970.
Virginia passed away in 2006.
Phil is survived by his sisters Gloria (Bill) Powell of Gig Harbor, Washington, Mary Yates of McCleary, Washington and Alice Bond of Massachusetts; as well as two stepsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Pearl, Tom and Mike as well as his stepdaughter Maxine.
Memorial contributions in Phil’s honor are suggested to the Whitman Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
