Idaho schools kick off
As has become custom, Idaho high school football teams get a jump on Washington teams a week earlier beginning tonight.
Defending 5A state champion Coeur d’Alene travels to Idaho Falls to face Skyline, Lake City treks to Meridian to take on Rocky Mountain and Post Falls has the shortest road trip, visiting Sandpoint. All games kick off at 7.
In other openers, Lakeland goes to Lewiston, Moscow visits Grangeville, Kellogg is at St. Maries and Lapwai visits Wallace, all at 7. In a doubleheader at the Kibbie Dome, Lewis County takes on Clark Fork in the debut of the White Star League – an eight-team amalgamation of the North Star and Whitepine leagues – and Timberline meets Mullan in the second game at 5.
On Saturday, Timberlake treks to Missoula to meet Frenchtown at the University of Montana’s Washington Grizzly Stadium; Bonners Ferry goes to Libby (Mont.) and Oakley visits Lakeside at Plummer.
The Post Falls-Sandpoint matchup features two teams with much potential.
Post Falls’ strength is up front on both sides of the ball. Sandpoint’s strength is speed.
