Gonzaga, which moved up to No. 9 in the Associated Press rankings and remained at No. 8 in the USA Today coaches poll, entertains Southeastern Louisiana tonight at 6 at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Lions (2-5), picked seventh in the 13-team Southland Conference, defeated Langston 92-80 in their last outing. Southeastern Louisiana, based in Hammond, lost at Oklahoma State by 28 and at Oklahoma by 25. First-year coach Jay Ladner led Jones County Junior College, of Ellisville, Mississippi, to the NJCAA national championship last season. Guards Zay Johnson (15.7) and Joshua Filmore (12.7) are the Lions’ leading scorers. Gonzaga senior guard Kevin Pangos was named WCC Player of the Week. Pangos averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 assists and earned Most Outstanding Player honors as Gonzaga won the NIT Season Tip-Off in New York.
