Chewelah man injured in DUI collision

From staff reports
An allegedly intoxicated man injured another driver Monday night on U.S. Highway 395 near Deer Park after failing to yield at an intersection. Jacob L. Jokkel, 33, of Chattaroy, was driving east on Dahl Road approaching the highway, and failed to yield before turning, a news release from the Washington State Patrol said. He struck Douglas W. Heise, 63, of Chewelah, who was driving north on Highway 395, causing Heise’s vehicle to roll. Heise was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center with injuries. He was not in the hospital on Tuesday morning. Jokkel, who was not injured, was arrested on investigation of driving under the influence. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. A warrant was filed today in Spokane County Superior Court to obtain a blood sample from Jokkel for investigation of vehicular assault.
