Obituary: Maxwell, Molly Kathleen

MAXWELL, Molly Kathleen Molly Kathleen Maxwell, 97 passed away at Nelson’s Corner in Colfax on November 21, 2014.

She was born on April 7, 1917 To Martha and Arthur Harry Reilly in Spokane Washington.

She joined her sister, Brita at home.

She grew up on the family dairy at Waukon, WA.

and graduated from Edwall High School.

She attended Kinman Business School in Spokane and worked at Lakeland Village and a lumber yard in Deer Park.

She met her husband on a blind date and six months later married Samuel Murel Maxwell, in Spokane, on October 9, 1936.

They lived in Spokane until Murel decided in 1943; he wanted his boys to grow up on a farm.

They moved to Colfax and worked on several different properties, living in the Parvin/Shawnee area.

Molly worked hand in hand with Murel, making one big meal after another, clean- ing, sewing and then started to give piano lessons out of the home.

She continued with the lessons up to her 93rd birthday.

She knit many beautiful Christmas socks and dish cloths for friends and family and made lots of cinnamon twists that were enjoyed by all.

Molly was a member of PEO, Chapter AF, and the Plymouth Congregational Church where she was the bell choir director and organist, playing for many special occasions in the Colfax community.

Murel preceded Molly in death in 1993.

Molly and Murel had three children: Sam (Yvonne), Cotati CA., Dan (Kathy), Freeland WA., and Martha Reese, Spokane WA.

They had two grandchildren, Sam Jr., Sacramento CA, and Jennifer Reese, Renton WA., and one great- grandchild, Katelyn, Russellville, AR, Molly also had five half- siblings: Patty and Dee L preceded her in death.

Melcina Thomas, Benton City,WA., Darlene Iburg, Mitchell S.D., and Karen Culbertson, Greenville S.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private family interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Spokane on May 2, 2015.

At Molly’s request, there will not be a funeral service, as she “played for too many of those” but there will be a “Party - Molly’s Last Hurray” celebrating her life on May 3rd at Plymouth Congregational Church.
