Illinois State rolls to win; EWU up next

Tre Roberson threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns and Marshaun Coprich become Illinois State’s single-season rushing leader with his 12th-straight 100-yard game to lead the Redbirds to a 41-21 win over Northern Iowa in Normal, Illinois, on Saturday.

The Panthers (9-5) won the first meeting of these Missouri Valley Conference rivals 44-28 to start a five-game winning streak to make the FCS playoffs but fell behind 24-0 at halftime. The Redbirds (11-1) extended their home winning streak to 13.

Illinois State, seeded fifth, goes to fourth-seeded Eastern Washington next weekend.

New Hampshire 44, Fordham 19: Nico Steriti had his first 100-yard game of the season and scored a career-best four touchdowns as the No. 1 seed Wildcats rolled over the Rams (11-3) at Durham, New Hampshire.

New Hampshire (11-1) faces eighth-seeded Chattanooga next weekend.

Chattanooga 34, Indiana St. 14: Jacob Huesman accounted for three touchdowns and the Mocs (10-3) forced three turnovers to beat the visiting Sycamores (8-6).

Coastal Carolina 36, Richmond 15: The Chanticleers (12-1) scored the first 21 points of the game while their defense clamped down on the Spiders (9-5) en route to the victory at Conway, South Carolina.

Coastal Carolina will take on North Dakota State in the quarterfinals.

North Dakota St. 27, South Dakota St. 24: Carson Wentz found RJ Urzendowski in the end zone inside the final minute for the winning score, and Tre Dempsey’s interception sealed the win for the Bison (12-1) over the Jackrabbits (9-5) at Fargo, North Dakota.

Villanova 29, Liberty 22: John Robertson scored from a yard out with 1:12 left to lift the Wildcats over the visiting Flames (9-5).

Villanova (11-2) advances to host Sam Houston State in a quarterfinal.

Sam Houston State 37, Jacksonville State 26: Jared Johnson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Bearkats (10-4) over the Gamecocks (10-2) at Jacksonville, Alabama.
