Obituary: Welch, Martin H. “Marty”

WELCH, Martin H. “Marty” Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in-law, uncle and friend passed away at home on December 2nd, 2014 from cancer and the complications of MDS.

Marty was born in Spokane, Washington on May 1st, 1938, to Herbert J. and Ella Kandler Welch.

He attended Trent Grade School and graduated from West Valley High School in 1956.

Marty worked for Western Electric for several years and then returning to Spokane, he went to work for ABC Office Equipment, where he remained for over 40 years, retiring as a Managing Partner.

Back in Spokane, he met the love of his life, Mary Ruth Berthiaume, and they were happily married for almost 54 years.

Marty loved camping, (especially with his family), hunting, fishing on Lake Pend Oreille, and fishing for Pikeminnow on the Snake River with his fishing buddy, Ruth.

He also enjoyed being the Scoutmaster of Chattaroy Troop #247 and a Little League coach for his sons.

He had a special talent for building and repair and especially loved helping his sons with many of their projects, usually underestimating the cost.

He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Paula, and five brothers-in-law.

He is survived by his loving family, wife Ruth; sons Dan (Michelle) Welch and Ron (Christie) Welch, granddaughters Jennifer and Katie-Renee Welch, all of Spokane Valley; sisters Ellen Baron, Albany, Oregon, and Maryann (John) Hone, Spokane Valley, and many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Janet Chestnut and the nurses at the Group Health Infusion Center for their compassionate and loving care of Marty.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, December 13th, at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams Rd., Spokane Valley.

Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
