Obituary: Sweet, Viola M.
She was born in Lecompton, Kansas on October 2, 1922 to Clarence and Susan (Coffman) Welcher.
After high school Viola graduated from Kansas State University and the University of Oregon.
She then went on to teach nursing in Kansas, North Dakota, and when she moved to Spokane, at Deaconess Medical Center.
In 1960 Viola married Edwin Sweet at Assumption Catholic Church in Spokane, WA.
Viola was a longtime resident of Spokane and an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
She had a 40 year nursing career and worked many years supervising in both Spokane City and Spokane County health departments.
She finished her career as executive director of the Visiting Nurses Association.
Viola was also a past president of Washington State Home Health Agencies.
Viola and Ed loved to play bridge an enjoyed camping.
She had a passion for gardening and flower arranging and foremost Viola was an active Catholic and devoted to her faith.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Cecil, Gladys, Evelyn and Gay.
She is survived by her five children, David (Ann) Sweet, LeRoy (Karon) Sweet, Patrick (Wendy) Sweet, Barbara (Patrick) McKee, and Kathleen (Robert) Hess, and 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be Friday, December 12, 2014 at 5pm, Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11am, St. Thomas More Parish, 505 St. Thomas More Way.
Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
