Obituary: Bartleson, Robert H.
Age 98
He was 98 years old.
He was the third son of Charles Albert and Susan Mason Bartleson, and grandson of Frederick H. Mason, a Spokane founder.
Bob attended Lewis and Clark High School and graduated in the class of 1934.
He took a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington in 1939.
Bob served in US Army during WWII.
He enlisted as Private, advanced to Chief Warrant Officer, and saw service on Guadalcanal.
He went to OCS from Guadalcanal, and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant.
On leaving the Army in 1946, Bob moved to Gustine, California where he worked in a lumber yard and met and married Mary Laughman in 1950.
They lived in San Francisco where Dwight was born in 1952.
Bob and Mary move to Spokane in 1954 following his parents death, and began construction of a home north of Mead.
Daughter Nancy born 1955, dies 1957 of heart defect.
Son Hugh is born in 1958.
Bob went back to college in early 60’s, ad becomes a Certified Public Accountant.
He is a self employed CPA until retirement in the 70’s.
Mary and Bob divorce in 1979.
Bob was a world traveler in the 80’s and 90’s, with trips to Europe, Asia, and Mexico several times a year, including many tours with Elder Hostel.
In 1990’s, Bob takes up playing bridge several times a week at the Corbin Senior Center and other places.
Bob begins the process to subdivide his Mead property in 1992, and it is completed by 2001.
In 2006, Bob is admitted as a Son of the American Revolution as a descendant of Richard Lord Jones, a Connecticut fifer.
He lived in his Mead house to 2004, when he began moving around, looking for accommodation closer to his recreation interests.
He was living in an adult group home when illness took him December 2, 2014.
He is survived by two sons, Dwight and Hugh; three grandchildren, Todd, Elizabeth, and Gwynne; and five great-grandchildren.
He loved driving in the first winter snow, getting stuck in the first winter snow, picking huckleberries, was an avid bridge and poker player, and world traveler.
His Memorial Service will be held December 20, 2014, 1:00 PM at the Corbin Senor Center at 827 W. Cleveland, Spokane
