Obituary: Dayharsh, Fred Lawrence

Age 86

DAYHARSH, Fred Lawrence (Age 85) Fred was born in Spokane, Washington, to Alice E. (Hanke) Dayharsh and Frank E. Dayharsh on December 28, 1928.

He died just 10 days before his 86th birthday.

He attended Jefferson Elementary, Lewis & Clark High School, and Eastern Washington University.

He had many jobs, some of which were janitorial work at Havermale Junior High, hod carrier for a construction crew, and worked nights for Caterpillar, Inc. while attending college in his 30’s.

After College, he moved to Kelso, WA, where he was Associate Planning Director of Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Governmental Council for seven years, and was then Planning Director for three years.

Moving back to Spokane in 1977, he worked for the County of Spokane as the Planning Director for three years, then for the City of Spokane in the planning department for 13 years, retiring in 1994.

Fred was a member of Manito Methodist Church, Fowler Methodist Church and Unity Church of Spokane during his lifetime.

He was a member of Toastmasters in both Longview, WA, and Spokane, Rotary in Longview.

He enjoyed gardening, dancing, and writing poetry.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, his sister Mary A.

Price, his brother John E. Dayharsh, and his daughter Marian Rose Norberg.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Kay Dayharsh, step-daughter Linda L. Conard, daughter Susan (Darrell) Halverson, son-in-law John Norberg, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Fred was a gentle, loving man.

He enjoyed his children, grands, great-grands, and great-great-grandchild.

He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and I know he is enjoying them in his Heavenly Home.

A Memorial Service will be held at Sans Souci West Mobile Home Park Community Center, January 5, 2015 at 2PM.
