Obituary: Youngblut, Joseph William “Joe”
Age 95
The family later relocated to Mandan, North Dakota.
In his youth Joe played hockey and baseball as a catcher.
He hunted, he said, ” Not to kill but for food.”
He attended Catholic schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942.
During his European Service he met his beloved Marie Antoinette (Nanou) Moutte, in Avignon, France.
They married September 13, 1946 and made their home in Spokane.
Joe was first employed by Lay Rite Concrete but always wanted to own his own business.
He owned and operated Joe’s 2nd Hand Store in Spokane Valley for 34 years.
His Humorous Merchandise guarantee was 10-10.
10 minutes out the door- 10 miles down the road, it’s yours.
He, with a partner, built and ran the Dishman Auction.
He also auctioneered at the Crestline Auction, the Wagon Wheel Auction, and the Coeur d’ Alene Auction.
He auctioneered many charity events over the years.
Joe’s greatest passion in life was playing poker and horse racing at Playfair in Spokane and later at Emerald Downs in Auburn.
He loved Las Vegas and made the trip two times a year until recently.
He was an avid Seattle Seahawks and Spokane Shock fan.
He enjoyed going on cruises and was really proud to live in his own home until the end.
When asked about his life story and to recall important life lessons he learned, he said “Never get mad, it’s not good for you, it makes you sick, be kind to everybody, be honest.”
He was a member of St. John Vianney Parish and later Our Lady of Fatima Parish.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Walter John and his beloved wife of 53 and one half years, Nanou.
He is survived by a son Bernie Youngblut and his wife Carolyn.
When once asked what he wanted on his head stone, he said just say “I came and I went”.
A Visitation will be held at Hennessey Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be the following day, Wednesday, December 30, 2014 at Our Lady of Fatima at 1 P.M. A burial is to follow the same day at Holy Cross Cemetery at 3 P.M.
