Obituary: Fyfe, Donald A.

FYFE, Donald A.

(Age 86) Donald was born on February 9, 1928 in Spokane, WA to William and May Fyfe.

He graduated from Audubon Grade School, Havermale Junior High, and in his senior year at North Central High School, he joined the U.S. Navy in San Diego, CA.

He spent his three-year enlistment in China, Guam, Japan and Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Jason.

Upon his discharge, he met and married Beverly Jean Suggs of Southgate, CA.

The young couple returned to Spokane where Donald attended and graduated from Spokane Technical and Vocational School in printing and graphics.

Donald worked as a linotype operator in Tekoa and Rockford, WA, and in 1952, at the age of 24, he became the Editor and Publisher of the Rockford Standard Register, becoming the youngest publisher in the State of Washington.

After 20 years, Donald and Beverly moved to Spokane, where he joined Lawton Printing Services, and retired in 1990.

While living in Rockford, Donald was very active in the community.

He was a member of the Rockford City Council, Rockford Fire Department, and Rockford Lions Club where he served as President.

Donald also served as the President of the Southeast Spokane County Fair, and served as a Democratic Party Committeeman.

Donald is survived by his children, Peggy May Brooks (Joe) of Colville, WA, and Donald W. Fyfe of Spokane, WA; his sister, Barbara Hubbert, and his brother, William E. Fyfe, both of Spokane, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm in the Ball & Dodd Chapel at 5100 W. Wellesley Ave., Spokane, WA.

Private interment at Fairmount Memorial Park.
