Obituary: Kienbaum, Jerry A.

Age 77

KIENBAUM, Jerry A.

(Age 77) Jerry A. Kienbaum passed away December 28, 2014 in his home in Spokane Valley, WA from heart failure.

He was born March 22, 1937 in Waverly, WA the son of Paul Gustov Kienbaum and Agnes Louise (Becker) Kienbaum.

He learned and implemented many lifelong skills working alongside his father on the family farm.

He was an active member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA).

In 1958, He married his bride, Janice (Powell) of St. Maries, Idaho where the two later settled and began their family.

His skills obtained from the farm quickly qualified him for a good job at the local lumber mill.

Later, in search of professional advancement, they moved to Spokane where Jerry gained expertise in the insulation and fireproofing trade; he owned and operated Advanced Fireproofing and Insulation for nearly 40 years.

Jerry was a devout Christian and an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

His family was his priority.

The outdoors was his passion.

Taking his kids and grandkids, Jerry is well known for spending weeks fly fishing, hunting deer and elk, snowmobiling, and his greatest passion was helping his rancher friends in Montana with pest control (ground squirrels and prairie dogs).

He was a grandmaster rifle marksman.

In recent years, Jerry gained national recognition for his skill in restoring and collecting vintage snowmobiles specializing in race era sleds.

He enjoyed guiding private tours of his award winning Northwest Museum of Vintage Snowmobiles; it contained over 150 vintage sleds.

He was well known for his intense passion for all endeavors, diverse skills, and warm hugs!

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Francis “Butch” Kienbaum; and by two grandchildren Roy and Jacob.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Janice Kienbaum of Spokane Valley; Teri (Kim) Downie of Mead, WA, Cheryle Hopkins of Spokane, Paul (Juli) Kienbaum of Liberty Lake, Wayne (Tina) Kienbaum of Spokane Valley, David (Lisa) Kienbaum of Colville, WA and Dalles (Denice) Kienbaum of Spokane Valley; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister Anita Haverkamp of Pasco, WA.

Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2015 from 5-7pm at St. Joseph Funeral Center Chapel, 17825 E. Trent, Spokane Valley.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 9am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams, Spokane Valley, WA, and Committal at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries, Idaho on Saturday at 2:00pm.
