Obituary: Rodgers, John L.
John suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in the football stands of EWU Roos Field on Saturday December 13th, was taken by ambulance to Providence Sacred Heart Hospital ICU where his body gave up its fight and joined his spirit in heaven.
He was born on May 16, 1960, the 2nd son of Charles N. (Jim) and Alice M. Rodgers, and was a lifelong resident of Spokane.
He attended Rogers High School and Spokane Community College where he received his welding certificate.
He completed the Ironworker apprenticeship and became a Journeyman Ironworker in 1983.
He married Theresa (Lapinski) Rodgers in 1991 and later divorced in 1998.
He leaves behind his son, Jake Rodgers (23), daughter, Kara Rodgers (21), his brother, Leo Rodgers, and nephews, Leo II (Rachel), Tom, Carl and Alex Rodgers and grandniece Hannah.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Alice.
He enjoyed supporting his children at their many school and sporting events and mostly of late, Kara’s roller derby bouts and Jake’s football games.
His hobbies included camping and spending time with his friends at Casa D’ Oro & The Screaming Yak.
He worked many years for Garco Construction and was proud member of the Local #14 Ironworkers Union for 35 years.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, January 3rd at 2:00 pm at Hennessey Funeral Home with a reception to follow at the Eagles Lodge.
