Obituary: Johnson, Kenneth E.

Age 90

JOHNSON, Kenneth E. (Age 90) Ken was born on January 16, 1924 in Cheney, WA to Carl and Laura Johnson.

He passed away at Kootenai Medical Center due to congestive heart failure on January 30, 2014.

Ken grew up in Edwall, WA, graduated from Edwall High School in 1942 and was captain of the basketball team his senior year.

In 1944 he married the love of his life Jenny Garner and they settled in Medical Lake where he built their first home.

In 1955 they moved to Spokane where Ken was a plant manager at Spokane Presto Log Co. for over 20 years.

Ken became a distributor for Arco Petroleum and later worked for Arco as a truck driver and then for Darigold.

Ken thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, and would spend hours fishing on Lake Pend Oreille, snowmobiling and traveling the northwest in his fifth wheel trailer.

For the last 12 years Ken lived in rural Post Falls where he enjoyed the view of the city lights and the wildlife.

In his years of retirement he enjoyed woodworking.

He especially liked making clocks and cedar chests for the family.

In his later years he enjoyed learning to cook and bake.

He often shared that passion with his friends and family.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife Jenny, of 64 years.

He is survived by his sisters Carol Strieff and Mildred Thorpe; children: Steve (Tricia), Jim (Vickie), Doug, and Judy (Roy) as well as three grandchildren: Jeff, Sumer and Kristin (Dan) and a great-granddaughter: Makenzie.

Services will be held at a later date.
