Obituary: Mccollim, James Robert “Jim”

Age 93

McCOLLIM, James Robert “Jim” (Age 93) James Robert McCollim passed away peacefully on February 7, 2014.

He was born August 28, 1920 in Cascade, MT to Arthur and Mabel McCollim and became a resident of Spokane at the age of three.

He met and married Yvonne Creighton in 1942 and they shared a life together for 67 years, before her death in 2009.

Jim had a career as a draftsman starting at Riblet Tramway, Spokane Machinery, and RA Hanson, retiring in 1985.

Jim was proud to serve his country in the United States Navy and Army during World War II.

He was very active throughout his life enjoying motorcycling, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and any other outdoor activity he could pass on to his three sons.

He enjoyed woodworking and could fix anything rather than replace it.

Jim spent many years living at Fairwood Retirement Village; he played the organ for many birthday parties and holiday events.

He was the resident Santa Claus from 1999 - 2013.

Jim is survived by his sons, Brian (DeeAnn) McCollim and Les (Kathie) McCollim; and his brothers, Larry McCollim and Dick McCollim.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Yvonne and son, Craig McCollim.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Jim and the family would like to thank the staff at Fairwood Assisted Living for their care and compassion during his final days.

Also a big thank you to the wonderful nurses, volunteers, caregivers, and spiritual counselors from Horizon Hospice for their care and support during the months he was under their angel wings.

A small service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 11:00AM to celebrate his life.
