Dressel 4th in nation

Mt. Spokane junior John Dressel finished fourth in the junior men’s race Saturday at the USA Cross Country Championships at Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder, Colo.

Dressel finished the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 45 seconds – the first high school runner to cross.

Three Stanford freshmen – Sean McGorty, Jack Keelan and Sam Wharton – finished ahead of Dressel.

McGorty won the event in 24:44.

Elise Cranny, who plans to attend Stanford next year, won the junior women’s 6,000-meter race in 21:14.

Dressel is coming off a second-place finish at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships at Balboa Park in San Diego on Dec. 15.

He finished third in the State 3A meet in the fall after a second-place finish at state in 2012.
