Obituary: Gere, Joan D.
She was originally from Perth, Australia, and came to the U.S. as a bride at the end of WWII.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Gere, in 1994.
For years she was an active member in PEO Chapter R in Spokane, Washington, and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
She helped start their Sunny Sunday program of providing a meal and entertainment to single people one Sunday a month.
Joan was a sweet, compassionate, witty, and fun woman, whose main passions were her family, gardening, cooking, reading, traveling, art, and helping animals.
She leaves behind a son, Philip Gere; daughter, Maurine Simpson; grandchildren, Daria Gere, Puri Gere and Zack Simpson; great-grand children, Julian and Ani Gere-Miller.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
A memorial service is planned at North Star Retirement Community in Coeur d’Alene.
