Panthers rally to win

Thomas Kautzman’s 3-pointer with 20 seconds left capped Mead’s furious comeback and helped the Panthers defeat Shadle Park 65-59 in a Greater Spokane League game Saturday night at Mead.

Shadle Park took control early and built a 28-11 lead with 2 minutes left in the first half. The Panthers dominated from that point.

A 25-6 third-quarter run gave Mead a 44-36 lead heading into the fourth.

Mead’s Brandon Pettersen tallied a team-high 12 points, with nine coming in the second half. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Kautzman and Mitchell Banaugh each added 11 points for the Panthers (5-3, 4-2).

Skyler Kelley scored 16 points and Dale Hagan added 15 for Shadle Park (3-4, 3-3), which committed 20 turnovers.


Timberlake 62, Priest River 40: Keegan Scott had 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists and the Tigers (1-8, 1-0) pulled away in the second half and beat the Spartans (1-8, 0-1) in a league opener at Spirit Lake. Mason Cramer added 11 points for Timberlake, which put the game away by outscoring Priest River 37-22 after halftime.

Northeast 2B

Springdale 55, Reardan 53 (OT): Josh Anderson scored 15 points and Chandler Caw added 12 as the Chargers (2-10, 1-5) edged the host Indians (4-7, 0-6). Reardan’s Skylar Peone and Grant Wagner combined for 28 points, but the Indians made just 11 of 25 free throws.

St. George’s 77, Davenport 52: Dexter Sienko scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to guide the Dragons (12-0, 6-0) past the visiting Gorillas (4-7, 1-4). St. George’s Will Tender added 19 points and is five points shy of 1,000 for his career.

Northeast 1B North

Cusick 65, Curlew 56: Alec Bluff scored 21 points and the Panthers (8-2, 4-0) built an early lead and held on to beat the host Cougars (5-2, 3-1). Mathan Knapp tallied a team-high 19 points for Curlew.

Selkirk 53, Republic 40: Cole Dawson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks and the Rangers (3-7, 2-2) excelled defensively in the second half in a win over the visiting Tigers (4-5, 1-3). Shawn Mailly and Dominic Cain added a combined 31 points for Selkirk.

Southeast 1B

Rosalia 90, Colton 83 (2OT): Craig Nelson scored 17 of his game-high 41 points in the two overtime periods and the Spartans (5-3, 3-1) survived in Rosalia. Nelson hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer in the fourth to force the first overtime. In the second OT, Colton’s Dalton Patchen scored on a put-back at the buzzer to force another overtime period.

Garfield-Palouse 75, Tekoa-Oakesdale 15: Tyler Thurman had 20 points and eight steals and Matthew Holbrook added 10 points, seven rebounds and six steals as the Vikings (8-0, 4-0) dominated from the outset in a win over the Nighthawks in Garfield. Garfield-Palouse forced 37 turnovers.

Touchet 67, St. John-Endicott 20: The Indians opened the game on a 23-3 run and coasted past the host Eagles (0-8, 0-4). Ruben Butler scored 22 points for Touchet and Robert Staples tallied a team-high 11 for SJE.

Central Idaho 2A

Grangeville 65, Coeur d’Alene Charter 20: Josh Dame and Jasper Sabatino combined for 24 points as the Bulldogs eased past the Panthers in Coeur d’Alene. CDA Charter was led by Chris Adams’ 11 points.

Lake City tournament

Columbia River 57, Lake City 48 (OT): Nathan Hawthorne scored 16 points and Chad Pedigo grabbed 10 rebounds as the Chieftains pulled away in overtime and beat the Timberwolves (6-3) in Coeur d’Alene. Kyle Guice tallied a team-high 13 points for Lake City.

Sandpoint 69, Vernon 46: Jeremiah Gagnon erupted for 30 points and led the Bulldogs (6-4) past Vernon. Thomas Edwards added 10 points for Sandpoint. Vernon’s Chris Gallant scored 16.

Lakeland 49, Wilsonville 40: Tyrel Derrick scored 20 points and Jake Ram added 11 as the Hawks (6-4) defeated the Wildcats.


Colfax 49, Lakeside 48: Kasey Johnson hit a free throw with 4 seconds remaining in the game to give the Bulldogs (6-4) a win over the Eagles (6-3) in Nine Mile Falls. Lakeside’s half-court heave at the buzzer was off the mark. Johnson finished with 21 points and made 8 of 10 from the line. Cameron Gay led three Lakeside players in double figures with 16 points.

East Valley 47, Freeman 42: The Knights (6-3) got their offense rolling after a cold-shooting first quarter and edged the host Scotties (2-5). J.T. Phelan scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Dan Keplin added 14 points for East Valley. Freeman was led by Jake Phipps’ 17 points.

Medical Lake 60, Deer Park 58: Tellas Johnson led three Cardinals in double figures with 19 points and Medical Lake (3-6) survived the Stags’ rally in Deer Park. Avery Miller led the Stags with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but his potential game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds was off the mark. Medical Lake jumped ahead 25-11 in the first quarter, but Deer Park (5-4) chipped away and narrowed the advantage.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 72, Odessa-Harrington 36: The Broncos (7-1) built a commanding halftime lead and dumped the Titans (5-4) in Ritzville. Ryan Whitmore had 21 points and seven rebounds and Dylan Hartz added 12 points and seven boards. Carsen Weber led Odessa-Harrington with 15 points.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 57, Columbia 28: Dallas Isaak made 9 of 13 free throws and finished with 35 points to guide the Warriors (1-8) past the Lions (2-8) in Hunters. The Lions’ Brayden Allen and Jeremy Loe combined for 23 points.

Valley Christian 61, Lakeside 38: Nick Cox scored 20 points and Bo Piersol added 17 as the Panthers (5-4) routed the Knights (6-3) in Plummer.
