Eastern third in two final FCS polls

College football: Eastern Washington finished third in a pair of postseason football polls announced Monday.

The Eagles were third in The Sports Network Top 25 poll of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries. In the coaches poll, Eastern was also third.

The only teams ahead of EWU are FCS champion North Dakota State and runner-up Towson.

Eastern, which ranked third in the final regular-season TSN poll and was seeded third in the playoffs, finished the 2013 season 12-3. It was the fifth season in school history with 11 or more wins, joining the 2012, 2010, 1997 and 1967 squads.

It is the third time in the last four years Eastern has finished ranked in the top four.

Rehkow collects another national honor

College football: Add yet another honor for University of Idaho punter Austin Rehkow. On Monday, the Central Valley graduate was honored on the Football Writers Association of America All-Freshman team.

Rehkow also is a member of the Walter Camp Team; the Sporting News All-Freshman Team; a first-team All-Independent choice of CollegeSportsMadness.com; a second team All-American by SB Nation; a third-team All-American by the Associated Press; and an honorable mention All-American by Sports Illustrated.

Rehkow, a true freshman, led the nation in punting average with an Idaho single-season record of 47.8 yards. For a punter with at least 75 kicks in a season, it is the highest average ever in the FBS and the best by a freshman for a season.
