In brief: Expanded program seeks donations of career clothing

EAST SPOKANE – Community Colleges of Spokane is expanding Wardrobes for Women to a Wardrobes for Success program in conjunction with Goodwill Industries, aiming to provide gently used professional clothing for students in need.

The program is seeking donations of career clothing, shoes and accessories for both for men and women for a giant, public sale May 23 and 24 at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.

Students in need of career clothing will get a voucher to shop at the sale.

Donations may be dropped at SCC’s Lair or at SFCC’s Lodge – look for the large, green bins. Donations may also be dropped at the Adult Education Center, 2310 N. Monroe St.

Mobile food bank Friday at Millwood Presbyterian lot

MILLWOOD – Millwood Presbyterian Church and Second Harvest will host a mobile food bank Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church parking lot at 3223 N. Marguerite Road.

Anyone who needs assistance may participate; no documentation is necessary. The visit does not count as the one food bank visit families are allowed each month.

People are asked to bring boxes or bags to bring their food home in.

North Spokane Corridor presentation is tonight

NORTHEAST SPOKANE – The Greater Hillyard Business Association is hosting a presentation about the North Spokane Corridor at 6:30 p.m. today at Food Services of America, 3520 E. Francis Ave.

The featured speaker is Mike Pea, assistant project engineer for the North Spokane Corridor.

Riverpoint Academy work will be on display at market

DOWNTOWN – The Spokane Public Market will host a “Sustainopreneurship Exhibition” featuring the work and innovations of 52 senior students from Riverpoint Academy, starting Jan. 16.

Among the exhibits are an electric go-kart, art created from recycled materials and a greenhouse project.

The market is at 24 W. Second Ave. and is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sheriff candidates to debate at Spokane City Hall

DOWNTOWN – The 6th Legislative District will host a debate between Spokane County sheriff candidates Ozzie Knezovich and Douglas Orr on Wednesday.

The forum will be at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers wanted to help others prepare taxes

SPOKANE – United Way, in partnership with AARP and the IRS, is seeking volunteers who will help low-income people prepare their taxes.

The program runs every year and is staffed by hundreds of volunteers, including retired accountants and professionals as well as local college students.
