No timeline yet for Lacy’s return

College hoops: Washington State men’s basketball coach Ken Bone said Friday that there is not yet a timeline for the return of injured guard DaVonte Lacy. Lacy, the team’s leading scorer, underwent an appendectomy on Dec. 28. He played briefly at Arizona State on Jan. 5 but left that game midway through the first half with a rib injury.

Bone said he doesn’t know when Lacy will be available to practice. Bone said even when Lacy does return, it will still take a while before the junior’s conditioning returns.

“I’m sure it’s going to be him coming back and then playing in stages, maybe get 20 or 30 minutes in one practice, maybe the next day 45, maybe the next day almost the whole practice,” Bone said.

“It’s going to take a little bit of time for him to get back at 100 percent, and I don’t even know when that process begins.”

Bone said that right now Lacy is “laid up” and will meet with doctors soon to determine a timeline for when he may be able to resume basketball activity.

The Cougars struggled without Lacy against the Arizona schools, combining to score just 72 points in the two games. But the offense found life against No. 15 Colorado on Wednesday in Spokane, scoring 70 points in the overtime loss.

“I think it’s always important to see what you can do without one of your better players,” Bone said. “And I think the guys should be, not content, but I think they should recognize the fact that we did some good things even without him at this time.”
