Obituary: Stevens, Edwin J. “Ed”, Jr.

Age 71

STEVENS, Edwin J., Jr. “Ed” December 3, 1942 - July 7, 2014 Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away quietly in his sleep on Monday, July 7th, surrounded by family.

Ed was born on December 3rd, 1942 in Spokane, Washington to Marvella and Edwin Stevens Sr., and was the oldest of five children.

He graduated from North Central High School, and soon started a family of his own.

He was an avid bowler until a knee injury sidelined him in 1994.

He had a stellar career, winning many tournaments and awards, earning him the nickname “Steady Eddie”.

He placed high at many national events and was inducted into the Spokane Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1992.

Ed worked in the construction industry most of his life, spending his early years working for the family business, Stevens & Sons Construction, eventually starting his own company, East Valley Construction, which he ran with his son, Jon.

His life revolved around his grandchildren and wrestling.

Many of his grandchildren wrestled in the Spokane Junior Wrestling program, where he was a volunteer coach and financial supporter for the last 17 years of his life.

In those 17 years, he never missed a match, always on the wrestling mat with the kids, and was voted “Fan of the Year” many times.

It wasn’t just the wrestling he loved - he supported all of his grandchildren whether in football, baseball or soccer.

His grandchildren always knew they could count on him to be there cheering them on.

He was a mentor to so many young children.

Ed is survived by his siblings, Steve and Geri Stevens, Lonnie and Mary Stevens, and Susan Stevens Kimble.

He is also survived by his children, Teri Stevens, Sheri Devenere, both from Spokane Valley, and Jon and Thomasina Stevens, from Newman Lake.

He was “Grandpa Wonderful” to 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and had numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by so many.

Please join us in a Celebration of his Life on Sunday, July 20th, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Terrace View Park in the Spokane Valley at 13500 E. 24th.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to East Valley Wrestling Club, P.O.
