Obituary: Michels, Katherine J.

MICHELS, Katherine Julia (Age 91) “Kay” was born in Twin Falls, ID to John and Julia Jewett on December 19th, 1922.

Later the family moved to Noxon, Montana where she graduated from high school.

She moved to Bremerton, WA working in the shipyard as a “Rosie the Riveter.”

She met her husband of 55 years while he was on active duty with the Army Air Corps.

After married, they lived in many places throughout the United States.

Following Henry’s military retirement, they settled in Spokane, Washington where she resided the remainder of her life.

Kay enjoyed her family first and foremost.

She was a dedicated mother, always putting her children’s welfare first.

She took great pride in her yard and gardens and it showed.

She was a wonderful cook.

Her Huckleberry Pies were legendary!

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, and siblings: Herb, William, and Elizabeth.

She is survived by her brother, Robert (Bob) Jewett; children: Joseph of Post Falls, ID; Fredolina of Bothell, WA; Teresa (Frank) Ehasz of Tampa, FL; Thomas (Giovanna) of Chester, VA, Paul (Sherry) of Nine Mile Falls, WA; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who fondly called her “Honey.”

A Viewing will be held on Friday, July 18th from 3 to 7 pm at Hennessey Funeral Home & Crematory (2203 N. Division).

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 11 AM at Assumption Parish with a Graveside Service for the family at 2 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery.
