How to help fire victims

KHQ plans to help victims of the wildfires in north-central Washington by accepting financial donations as well as nonperishable food and gently used clothing all day today.

KHQ will staff a collection point from 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at the back door entrance to the station on Adams Street. The station is located at 1201 W. Sprague Ave., but KHQ staff said the Adams street side of the facility will be the collection point. Financial donations will go to the Red Cross while other items will be handled by the Salvation Army.

Emergency donations can also be made directly to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Visit redcross.org/donate or call (800) REDCROSS. Donations can be directed by noting the Apple Valley Chapter based in Wenatchee.

The chapter has set up emergency shelters and is providing supplies for families displaced by the wildfires in the Pateros and Brewster area.
