Obituary: Semerad, Virginia Lea

Age 74

SEMERAD, Virginia Lea Virginia Lea (Boyd) Semerad passed away July 19th, 2014 in Spokane.

She was born to Robert and Mary Boyd on August 25, 1940 in Salem, Oregon.

She was a lifelong resident of Spokane.

She attended Holy Names Academy graduating in 1958.

She met her husband Ken in high school and they later reconnected and married in 1966.

They raised their family in Spokane and loved to spend time traveling, playing at Priest Lake and spending time with family and friends.

Virginia loved to cook and especially enjoyed teaching others the craft.

She taught gourmet cooking classes for several years, and later earned an Associates Degree in Interior Design.

When her children were grown she began volunteering in various ministries, most notably prison ministry and in visiting nursing homes.

She found great joy in entertaining and hosting family and friends.

Virginia loved children, especially her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

She was a wonderful listener, loved to laugh, and had a great sense of humor.

Virginia will be lovingly remembered as a selfless, hope-filled, faithful woman that lived her life for others.

Virginia is survived by her husband Ken; children, John (Dawn) Smith, Michael (LeeAnn) Semerad and Melissa (Rick) Jones all of Spokane; sisters Roseanna Boyd and Mary Smith; brothers Roger Boyd and Boyd Ditter; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary Prayers will be Friday, July 25, 2014 at 10am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated the same day at 11:00am, also at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 515 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane, WA 99208.

Committal will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Virginia would like any contributions to go to the Missionaries of Charity in Spokane, 5006 N. Lacey Street, Spokane, WA 99217.
