Obituary: Honorable, Opheila (Ophelia)
She was born in the small town of Tamo, Arkansas on June 18, 1937, to Ollie Honorable and Gertrude Normand.
She spent most of her young life in Grady, Arkansas where she had seven children.
In an effort to escape the hardships of plantation life, she set off to California with all of her children.
She raised her children by herself in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She lived in California for over 20 years.
In 2001, she moved to Spokane, WA and lived with family until the time of her passing.
She was survived by her children: James Duncan, Jr., Shirley Duncan, William Duncan, Tammy Duncan, Donald Duncan, Elnoria Edmonds; her eight grandchildren, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Alvin Jones, her grandson Tyrome Ricky Citizen, and a number her siblings.
Opheila will be best remembered for her wit, her laughter, her strong will and her big heart.
Despite the challenges she faced throughout her life, she was never deterred from enjoying the good she was able to experience.
Her life story is the epitome of how one can over come adversity with faith in oneself and in God.
She will be cremated at Spokane Cremation and Funeral Home, and her ashes will be spread at a later date.
