Obituary: Simchuk, Loretta Rose

Age 98

SIMCHUK, Loretta Rose (Age 98) Our mother died May 8, 2014 in the loving arms of her son John D. Simchuk and his dear wife Diane at their home in Tacoma, WA.

Mom was born in Toledo, Ohio to Louis and Carrie DeLisle on October 16, 1915.

She had one sister Edna who preceded her in death.

Her parents divorced when she was five and for a time she lived with her maternal grandparents on their farm outside of Toledo, OH.

She often recalled those days with her grandparents as “magical days”, living with her loving grandparents and numerous aunts.

After graduating from high school she attended Michigan State University and was a walk-on member of the women’s swim team.

She moved to Detroit and was living with her mother and stepfather Peter Yarovoy when she met our father John in June of 1934.

John and his brother Andy had driven to Detroit from Spokane to buy a new car and stayed with our mother’s family as moms’ stepfather was a distant relative of our father’s parents.

Mom and Dad dated for two days before our father returned to Spokane with his new Model “T”.

They wrote every day with special delivery on Sunday.

Dad sent her a watch for her birthday in October and an engagement ring that Christmas.

He returned to Detroit in June of 1935 and they were married.

They spent their honeymoon on their return trip to Spokane and were married for 40 years until his death in 1975.

Together they built a home and had six children: George (Colleen), John (Diane), Rook (Cindy), Janice, Chuck and Loraine.

Mom doted on her children, always proud of their accomplishments and adored her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her daughters-in-law Colleen, Diane and Cindy were like daughters to her, loving, caring and calling her Mom.

Mom’s youngest daughter Lorraine was born with Down Syndrome.

Our parents cherished Lorraine and we as her siblings were taught through our parents love the value of acceptance and to marvel at even the smallest of achievements and the joy of the every day.

Our mother was preceded in death by her husband John, son George and wife Colleen.

Funeral Service 2PM, Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Heritage Chapel with graveside service following.

In lieu of flowers our family asks that you make a donation to the Lakeland Village Parent’s Association in our mother’s name.
