Obituary: Schmidt, Charles Baily “Duke”

Age 89

SCHMIDT, Charles Baily “Duke” (Age 89) Duke was born in Philipsburg, Montana to William and Edna Schmidt on August 12th, 1924.

He past away peacefully October 9, 2013.

Duke joins his beloved wife, Helen Hamilton of 63 years who passed weeks before.

Duke is survived by his siblings Gladys Winsor and Harold Schmidt, also his 4 children Cindy, Mark, Melissa and Scott, 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grand children.

After Duke graduated from Granite HS, he joined U.S. Navy.

Duke didn’t talk about the Navy although he did mention after the Japanese bombed his ship, the USS Princeton, he walked off the burning ship onto the bow of a rescue ship.

Returning home he married and started a family.

They moved to Spokane, WA in 1949.

Duke soon became an owner of a full service Shell station.

Duke loved camping and taking trips to Montana.

Duke was a very thoughtful caring man and will be missed very much.

The family would like you to join them to celebrate his life in Philipsburg, MT.

They will be having a memorial service on June 29, 2013, 2:00pm at the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 103 West Kearney St., Philipsburg, MT.

The Memorial Service will be followed with a grave site Color Guard service preformed by the U.S.

Naval Reserves.
