Obituary: Coombs, Marjorie J.
(Age 94) Marjorie June was Born June 22, 1919, in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana to Frank and Flossie (Pyle) Vincent.
After graduating from Hamilton High School, she moved to Spokane, Washington, and graduated from Kinman Business University.
During those early years in Spokane, she joined First Presbyterian Church.
She remained a faithful believer and was elected the first woman Moderator of the Inland Empire Presbytery.
She chaired the nominating committee of the General Assembly, the governing body of the national Presbyterian Church.
She married the love of her life, James M. Coombs in July, 1942.
They had three children and built a lovely home in Northwest Spokane, where they lived for 50 years.
They lived in and enjoyed their friends at the Riverview Retirement Community for 14 years.
Marge served as a docent at the MAC, regularly attended symphony and Civic Theater performances, and participated in many other cultural and artistic venues.
She and Jim loved hosting family and friends during the ‘74 Expo.
They traveled extensively in the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
She is survived by sons: David (Jan) Coombs of Denver, Roger (Kathy) Coombs of Spokane Valley; grandchildren: Julie Luebcke, Kristin Gockley, Lisa Lord, Jessica Seefeldt; eight great-grandchildren; brother Charles Herbert (Velma); and friend Arthur (Sharon) Gurtel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, daughter, Susan, granddaughter, Carol, and brothers Donald, Frank, and Darryl.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, June 28, 2014, at Riverview Retirement Community Chapel, 1801 E. Upriver Drive.
