Obituary: Innes, Clyde B.
Age 90
Clyde was many things to many people; a soldier, a manager of the J.C. Penny Co, the proud owner and operator of Sunrise Point Resort, a husband and father, but most of all he was my grandpa and the best man I have ever known.
He taught me to lace up my ice skates, fix a leaky faucet, and drive a tractor.
He told me thousands of stories and they all started the same way; “When I was a little girl…” and they all ended with a lesson.
I would whine “Grandpa, you already told me this one,” but he would tell me again anyway.
Through his stories and the example he set he gave me the tools I would need to become the person I am today.
He showed me that real love is unconditional and that true strength is not measured by size, but the quality of your character.
Because he was kind and generous, I learned compassion.
Because he worked hard and never gave up, I learned determination.
And because he caught me every time I fell, I had the courage to follow my dreams.
When I was small and afraid of the monsters in my closet he said, “Well, are you going to lie there scared all night, or are you going to get up and have a look?”
As I got older and my fears turned from monsters to deployments, moving away from home and MCAT exams, he was always there to tell me “Give ‘em hell, babe.
Come hell or high water I’m on your side.”
And he always was.
In his last days, he was too weak to tell me his stories, so I held his hand and told them to him.
The last time I saw him he asked me if I would still think of him after he’s gone.
The answer is yes.
I will think of him every single day, how could I not, because the best parts of me only exist because of him.
At this time no service will be held.
The family plans to scatter his ashes over Deer Lake at a later date.
Please honor Clyde by remembering him in the first blooms of spring, when enjoying a milkshake, or while watching the waves crash on the shore.
